What is the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report?

Sustainability Appraisal is mandatory for all Local Development Documents (yellow and green folders in diagram), with the purpose of promoting sustainable development principles through the integration of social, environmental and economic considerations into the preparation of these documents.

The issues that were raised by the four statutory environmental consultation bodies (English Nature, Environment Agency, Countryside Agency & English Heritage) and other stakeholders have been incorporated into the Scoping Report.

The purpose of the Scoping Report is to:

  • Identify the policy context within which the development documents are being written
  • Assess the broad environmental, social and economic characteristics of North Norfolk and identify the key issues for the Local Development Framework to address
  • Set out an appropriate framework for carrying out the Sustainability Appraisal of those documents, including objectives against which draft policies can be assessed.
