VILLAGE NEWS:
'Knapton Remembered'
Late October and early November 2007 saw a great deal of activity in the village, as groups of people were photographed and filmed by Anglia TV.
So, what was the cause of all this excitement? It was the publication of a new book, 'Knapton Remembered'. This wonderful book was written by 70 former pupils of Knapton School. They have shared with us their memories of life in Knapton from the 1930s to the 1960s and it is a fascinating insight into life in the village during that period. To quote the back cover of the book:
"Knapton was not a prosperous village, but its children were blessed by an inspirational head teacher, Mrs Johnson, the strong and generous leadership of Miss Robinson of Knapton House, and the influence of its two flourishing churches. The sense of community and the rhythm of the farm year permeate every page of this book …"
'Knapton Remembered' was edited by Gillian Shephard and was launched at Knapton Village Hall on Sunday 4 November 2007. Many of the book's participants (including Gillian Shephard) came along to the launch. We were treated to tea and cakes and had the opportunity to hear first hand some of the memories.
If you do not yet have a copy of 'Knapton Remembered', I would urge you to purchase one as it is a delightful insight into the history of our village over a 30 year period. Copies are available from Mundesley Post Office and Jarrolds in both Cromer and Norwich (price £10.00).
"Knapton News", our bi-monthly village newsletter, was born in June 2007. Through it you can keep up with current village news and events. Issue 6 is due out soon.
The Parish Council funded the first 6 issues, and have just confirmed their funding for the next 6 ssues. This is much appreciated as without funding the Newsletter would cease. It is produced by a small team of residents, for free. Funding pays for the actual prouction costs, printing, ink, paper etc.
Where possible issues are delivered via email, otherwise by hand (volunteers needed!). If you have an email address please let Tricia know (721855, or email (pdb49@btinternet.com). Alternatively, talk to Tricia at 'White Rose House' in Hall Lane - opposite the Old School. This will save costs and ensure early delivery to you. Current and previous issues will soon be available in digital format from here.
Recycling in Knapton!
For those who are not aware, there is a bottle bank and a can bank for recycling in the village. It is at MADRA, on the Hall Lane side of the club house.
Do not be fooled by the colour of the bin (brown) or its attached label "Brown Bottles Only". You can recycle any colour of bottle by using the bin. The bottle and can bins are hired from NNDC's Recycling Scheme. They are emptied regularly. Please use this facility whenever you need to, especially as we could lose if it is not used sufficiently. Thanks.
