Grants for improving energy efficiency of your home

There are grant schemes available for those on low incomes to help improve the energy efficiency of your home, which will help to save you money on fuel cost and keep your home warm.

To qualify for a Warm Front grant, a person must own their home or rent privately AND the property must have a SAP rating of 55 or under (this measures the energy efficiency of the dwelling).  This will be assessed at the beginning of the Technical Survey by the Warm Front surveyors.

A householder who is entitled to the Cold Weather Payment should qualify for Warm Front.

A householder or their spouse or partner must be in receipt of one of the following:
  • Pension Credit (Guaranteed Credit or Savings Credit)
  • Income Support, or Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, or Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (which includes a work related activity or support component), and has any of the following:
    • Parental responsibility for a child under 5 who ordinarily resides with that person
    • Child Tax Credit, which must include a disability or severe disability element for a child or young person
    • Disabled Child Premium
    • Disability Premium (enhanced disability or severe disability element premium)
    • Pensioner Premium (higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium)
If you or your spouse is in receipt of one or more of the above benefits,  then the Warm Front Scheme provides a package of insulation and /or heating measures up to a maximum value of £3,500 (or £6,000 if oil central heating is involved), less the value of all works previously completed in the property under Warm Front. Householders could receive a combination of the following insulation and heating improvements:
  • Loft insulation
  • Draughtproofing
  • Cavity-wall insulation
  • Hot water tank insulation
  • Gas, electric, liquid petroleum gas (LPG), or oil heating
  • Converting a solid fuel open fire to a glass-fronted fire
