Clinical Waste

We no longer provide a separate collection of domestic Group E clinical waste (incontinence pads, colostomy bags, used disposable bedpans and bedpan liners).  Any such waste should be securely placed in a plastic bag before being deposited within your grey bin or black sacks.  NNDC no longer provide sacks for the collection or containment of this waste.  For "E" waste collections from a business, please see our commercial clinical waste collection charges.
North Norfolk District Council provides  a special service for other items of clinical waste to be collected. There are 2 types of clinical collection:
  • Group A: All human tissue including blood soiled surgical dressings, swabs and other soiled waste from treatment areas.
  • Group B: Used hypodermic needles *

The service is provided by dedicated vehicles and requires the use of coloured sacks or sharps boxes.
You can apply for this service, and acquire the sacks/boxes, from our Customer Services Team on 0300 123 1163.

When you have requested a clinical waste collection NNDC will write to confirm the details of the collection, and let you know when the collections will be made.

This service is free for domestic use but for businesses, please see our commercial clinical waste collection charges.

Please do not place Group A clinical waste and/or needles in either the black refuse or clear recycling sacks or your Twin Bins.

*We cannot collect any needles or dressings that have been used to administer Cytotoxic/Cytostatic medicines or anything you are told to label as Cytotoxic/Cytostatic waste. For advice on how to dispose of these items, please contact the dispensing pharmacy/surgery/hospital.
