Environment Awards

Norman Lamb MP with a winner of the 2009 Environment Awards

Over the last 17 years, North Norfolk District Council has recognised environmental achievements across the District through its annual Environment Awards. The 2011 awards changed slightly in format from previous years, with the green projects of local organisations such as schools, businesses and community groups being judged on how they made a contribution to the environment in three new categories:

  • Cutting Carbon Emissions
  • Improving Natural Spaces
  • Raising Environmental Awareness

A £250 prize was up for grabs for the winners in each of the above categories, and all shortlisted entries received a local variety apple tree.

A new category was also created. Rather than recognising recently completed or ongoing environmental projects, the John Sweeney Award for Budding Environmental Projects offered up to £1000 to organisations in the district seeking funding to carry out new environmentally-themed projects. The entrants were judged and funding awarded to the entrant with the most potential for making positive environmental change.

The awards presentation ceremony to announce the winners of the 2011 awards took place on September 10th during the NNDC Green Build event.
