FOI Publication Scheme

Under Section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the FOI Act) each public authority must produce a publication scheme. This has to set out what information it will make available as a matter of course, how and when it will do so, and whether or not this information will be made available free of charge. The Authority must then release the information as promised in its scheme.

Publication schemes are intended to make a significant amount of information readily available to the public and to encourage a greater culture of openness within government organisations and public bodies generally. This is North Norfolk District Council's Scheme under the Act. We have set out:

• What information we publish or intend to publish as a matter of course
• How the information will be published
• Whether the information will be available free of charge or on payment.

This publication scheme and the documents to which it refers are available in the first language of the district - namely English. In preparing this scheme we have had regard to the public interest. We have taken notice of the sort of information that people normally ask us for and what they are interested in. The scheme will be reviewed from time to time to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the public and any amendments made as necessary.

The Act requires the publication scheme to specify the classes or categories of information it covers and we have set out each class of information by reference to the service or section which is responsible for it. The publication scheme covers a wide range of information which can be accessed in a number of ways. Much of the information listed in the scheme is available on paper but increasingly the Council is publishing its information online. Where the information is published online a link is provided. Unless otherwise stated, publications listed in the scheme are supplied free of charge.
