About the Band

Up to 1960 the Band had only missed taking part in The East Anglian Brass Band Association's Annual Contest about six times; playing in the Championship section for seven years in succession, which included becoming the "Champions of East Anglia" in 1967. scoring 194 points out of a possible 200. An interesting fact is that the SHERINGHAM TEMPERANCE BAND were the first to become "Champions of East Anglia" in 1932 and again in 1949 under the leadership of Mr. Alfred Ashpole.

The Band is made up entirely of amateur musicians from various walks of life; at this point in time there are some 30 members on the books, 24 being active players.

Of the 24 players (the Band) only one is under the age of 20 years, The average age of the 24 players is 61 years with 15 being aged 65 and over, the oldest member is aged 82 and the youngest just 19. All live locally some coming from as far afield as Nth Walsham, Aylsham and Swafield.

The band rehearses regularly at the Upper Sheringham Village Hall on Thursday evenings at 8.00pm and members of the public are welcome to come in and listen, or sit in and have a "blow" at any time.

At the present time there are a few vacancies within the Band, we are still looking for Bb Cornet players to fill the front row as Tutti players, as well as 2nd and 3rd Cornets. We are always looking for younger players, for as you can see the present members are not getting younger and young players will be needed to carry on the tradition: We are also looking for a youngster to take up playing the E-flat Cornet. Anyone wishing to have a go would be made most welcome, we have training facilities within the Band where Tuition is available.

The Cromer and Sheringham Brass Band Badge

The Badge used by the Band depicts a pine cone, emblematic of the pine trees surrounding Sheringham area; the blue, black and white wavy lines represent the sea at Cromer.
