David Richard Lloyd was born on 28 June 1939, the son of Richard Norman Lloyd and Grace Enid Lloyd. David was educated at Brighton College (where he was a George Long Scholar) and Trinity Hall, Cambridge (where he was an Exhibitioner). He received his BA in 1961 and MA in 1965. He was awarded an MA from Leeds University in 1969.
Rev. David Lloyd was Assistant Curate at St Martin's in Rough Hills, Wolverhampton from 1963 to 1967. In 1969 he professed as a Member of the Community of the Resurrection at Mirfield in 1969 (taking the religious name of Denys which he has retained). The Community is Anglican and its Members share in the same Discipline as the Benedictine Order. Father Denys became Tutor at the College of the Resurrection from 1970 to 1975, then the College's Vice Principal from 1975 until 1984, when he became Principal. From 1972 Father Denys was also an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Leeds.
He was received into the Roman Catholic Church at Quarr Abbey, on the Isle of Wight in 1990. He attended the Missionary Institute in London from 1993-4, and was ordained Catholic priest in 1994. He was Assistant Priest at St Mark's in Ipswich, and RC Cbaplain, Ipswich Hospital from 1994-96 when he became Parish Priest at |Our Lady's in Stowmarket. Before being commissioned by Bishop Michael Evans to merge the two parishes in Cromer and Sheringham he was Rural Dean in Bury St Edmunds from 2001. He has made many contributions to theological journals.
