News-sheet 5 July

Jesus said:
‘A prophet is only despised
in his own country.’

(St Mark, Chapter 6; Today’s Gospel)

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend the Church observes as a ‘Day for Life’ – we remember all those who devote themselves to upholding the sanctity of human life and pray for a greater respect for human life among those who have influence in national and local government in our country.  At all Masses this weekend there will be a Second Collection for ‘life charities’:  in particular for the ‘LIFE’ organisation and for the Linacre Centre, which is a Catholic research centre in London, which seeks to advance Catholic teaching and practice in the field of bio-ethics.
This Sunday is also the National S.V.P. Pilgrimage to Walsingham for the Sick.  Mass at 1.30pm. If you need a lift, please telephone David Thornton on 01263-579279.

The date of declaration will be the date you make the donation.  The National Insurance Number, whilst desirable, is not essential.  As you are doubtless aware, when you use your GIFT AID facility, the Parish receives about 25% more than you actually give – provided, that is, you pay Income Tax.  Thank you!

MRS. CHRISTINE BLAKE, R.I.P.
Many of you will know by now of the sudden death last Saturday evening of Christine Blake. Christine was a very long-standing member of St Joseph’s Parish and also had many links with the Cathedral Parish.  For some years she was the St Joseph’s rep. on the Diocesan Pastoral Council and currently a member of the PPC of our Parish. We offer her family our sincere sympathy and assurance of prayers.  I hope to be able to give details of the Funeral arrangements at the weekend.
