THE MYSTERY OF PRAYER
Sessions of the Parish Lent Study Programme on Tuesday at St Joseph's at 7.30pm and Thursday at Our Lady of Refuge at 2.30pm:
Week 4: 'Looking ahead - prayer and our involvement in a world of change'
I have been asked to provide in the News-sheet each week some biblical quotations and a couple of questions on the theme of each week's talk.
So, for Scripture, I suggest: Romans, Chapter 8: the work of the Holy Spirit - the groaning and travailing of creation - the hope of glory; also 2 Corinthians Ch. 1, v. 22 and Ch. 5, v. 5 and Ephesians, Ch. 1, v.14: both these Letters speak of the Holy Spirit as the 'guarantee'/'pledge in advance' of our inheritance.
A couple of questions: Does the way I pray help me effectively to share in God's own creative activity? - at the personal level, in terms of renewing my own relationships with others? - and helping others towards maturity? And at the 'political' level - in terms of bringing healing to a 'broken society' - discerning 'meaning' where others capitulate to despair?

This 10 page statement of basic principles for the guidance of Catholics (and others), based on the tradition of Catholic Social Teaching is available on the Internet: http://www.catholicchurch.org.uk/ . I am also putting out copies, for anyone who would like to take one, of the summary of the document that was printed last week in the Tablet.
CONFIRMATION PREPARATION PROGAMME
When I asked towards the end of last year for names of those who
might be interested in preparing for Confirmation, it was clear that
we did not have a sufficient number of candidates to set up a viable
programme.
Soon after Easter, however, a Programme will begin at North
Walsham. Fr David Bagstaff, the Parish Priest at North Walsham,
has kindly said he would be very pleased to include in the group any
candidates there might be from the Parish of Our Lady and St Joseph.
The Programme will run from soon after Easter until the
Confirmation Celebration Mass on December 10th. Sessions will
take place about every three weeks, with a break in the summer.
Would those young people (Year 10 and above) who might be
interested please either let me know or e-mail Fr David Bagstaff:
e-mail: david.bagstaff@boltblue.com or telephone: 01692-403258.
ARMED FORCES PRAYER CARD
The Chaplain-General's Office has produced a prayer card (price 20p) for those who wish to associate themselves in prayerful support with our Servicemen and Servicewomen - and their families. The intention behind the production of the prayer card is threefold:
To encourage the Christian community to pray for our Service personnel daily.
To provide an outlet for individual and collective concern.
To contribute towards the rehabilitation of our returned injured personnel.
Money accrued from sales is donated to 'Help for Heroes'
These cards can be obtained from May Arnold -or via Fr Denys.

from all over the Diocese. At this Mass, the Oils to be used in the
administration of the Sacraments are blessed and consecrated, and the
clergy renew their commitment to serve God and his People. I hope
that, once again this year, many members of the Parish will be able to
be present. Please sign up as soon as possible on the lists at the back
of both our churches for the coach. There is no set fare, but
contributions to the cost of the coach are of course welcome. Your
contributions will be collected on the coach.
The coach will pick up at St Joseph's at 5.30pm prompt and again at
Our Lady of Refuge at 5.45pm.

Please let Fr Denys know if you are a Blue Badge holder and require
