Performance

North Norfolk District Council’s Corporate Plan, called Changing Gear, sets out what we intend to do. We manage the Council to make sure we do what is in the Corporate Plan and we publish an Annual Report and Performance Plan and carry out satisfaction surveys so that everyone can see the progress we are making.
Current Annual Report

The Annual Report contains;

  • An assessment of how we are doing against our targets
  • What we have done and what we will do to achieve these targets
  • How we are improving the way the Council works
  • The results for the National Indicators for North Norfolk

Satisfaction with the Council and the area

We carry out a regular satisfaction survey so that residents can give their opinion of how the Council is doing. The most recent of these was carried out in 2008 and is called the Place Survey. A consortium of Norfolk councils and other public bodies commissioned the Place Survey, conducted between September and December, as a new way (specified by the Government) of finding out how happy people are with the way things are run in their communities. Previously, councils asked questions about their own services in three-yearly satisfaction surveys, but some questions from those earlier surveys were carried over into the new format.

This time, 87 per cent of respondents said they were satisfied with North Norfolk as a place to live — hardly changed from the 2006 result of 86 per cent. Ipsos MORI, who conducted the survey on behalf of the consortium, said this is higher than the 78 per cent average of their results for other such surveys around the country. They also found the figure was higher among people aged 65 or over (which is usual around the country), at 90.8 per cent.

In a number of important areas, like community safety and fear of crime, community cohesion and how well people from different backgrounds get on together, and how much people get involved in the community and decision-making, North Norfolk does much better than the averages for Norfolk and the rest of the UK.

The findings from the 2006/07 survey were positive for North Norfolk District Council. Counter to the national trend, overall satisfaction with the Council improved since 2003/04.
