Boating Safety

Boat on fireBoat on fire

Within North-Norfolk we have miles of rivers, broads and waterways,. These waterways are populated by thousands of boats, most of these boats are being enjoyed by people on holiday within the district.

By following the simple steps below you can take steps to prevent fire from occurring and protect yourself and family.

  • Ensure you fit or have a working smoke alarm installed.
  • Test your smoke alarm weekly to ensure it is still working.
  • Never leave a cooker that's in use unattended.
  • Ensure electrical wiring is in good condition, ideally have it checked by a competent electrician annually.
  • Do not use multi adapters.
  • Be carefull with lit cigarettes. Clothes, hair and furniture can easily catch fire.
  • Do not place items to close to heaters.
  • Keep matches, lighters and firelighters away from children.
  • Make sure your gas bottle (LPG) is kept level and away from heat sources.
  • Ensure all gas connections and pipework are in good condition
  • Consider fitting a fire blanket and or for extinguisher to your Boat.

If you are hiring or own a boat, ensure it has been registered & checked with the Boat Safety Scheme.
