NORTH NORFOLK YOUTH VOICE

North Norfolk Youth Voice (NNYV) is a group set up in October 2008, to give young people between the ages of 13 and 24 a voice, within North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) and their communities.
The group meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening at Merchants Place, in Cromer and is funded by NNDCs Supporting Communities Team. Transport can be supplied.
WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING
Since it was set up, North Norfolk Youth Voice has
- Created a Youth Inclusion Strategy (YIS) to help the voices of young people to be heard within North Norfolk District Council. The Strategy is currently moving through the Council’s adoption process.
- Many of the group’s current members participated in Sexual Relationship Training, funded by the Terence Higgins Trust. The group then delivered information, face to face, in schools and with other youth groups, sharing the education with their peers.
- Received external Equality and Diversity training.
- Have undertaken consultations with young people across the District to ascertain matters which are important to them.
- Held our first Annual General Meeting to elect new officers.
- Worked with town and parish councils, agencies and organisations enabling them to receive the views of young people when developing their own projects and materials.
RESIDENTIALS
The group attended Hautbois House Activity Centre in June 2010. We did some team building work whilst making use of the centre’s outdoor pursuits.
The group was fortunate to be offered places on a Tall Ship, sailing along the East Coast of England. We learnt new skills, faced some personal challenges and developed our individual and group confidence.
FUTURE PLANS
- To fulfil the Youth Inclusion Strategy (YIS) Action Plan.
- Annual General Meeting, October 2011.
- Continue on past success and develop our skills and knowledge further, specifically to have Information Technology and Web Design training to enable us to create our own Website.
- Deliver our Sexual Relationship Education to more groups and schools.
- Apply for external funding to expand our project range and profile.
