A vast collection of social, domestic and agricultural memorabilia. Over 4000 fascinating exhibits ranging from mechanical toys and vintage cars to massive steam engines dating from the Victorian period to the mid-20th century. Adjacent to the Museum, the History of Farming Exhibition is designed to help visitors understand how a great estate such as Holkham works and has evolved. Find out about Coke of Norfolk and his role in the 18th century Agricultural Revolution.

Combined ticket (Bygones and Hall): adults £10, child £5, family ticket (2 adults + 2 children): £25.

The only surviving town gasworks in England and Wales, complete with all equipment used for the manufacture of gas from coal: retorts, condenser, purifiers, meter, gasholder. Displays of lighting, heating, cooking and domestic equipment.

The Chapel has played an important part in local life since 1717. The collections reflect this with reminders of local home and working life. Displays cover spinning, weaving and dyeing which were so important in Norfolk prior to the Industrial Revolution. It is normally possible to visit the ‘Weaver’s Loft’ where members of the Worstead Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers have work in progress.

The Poppy Line is a heritage railway and working museum rolled into one! You’ll enjoy spectacular views as the train runs along the coast from Sheringham to Weybourne and up through the heathland to Holt. The William Marriott Museum at Holt, named after the man who built the railway and ran it for forty years, shows how the railway was the area’s lifeline, giving birth to tourism in North Norfolk.

The William Marriott Museum is open from March to October when steam trains are running.
