Coastal Strategy

North Norfolk District Council is involved in a number of regional and national projects reflecting both the importance the Council places on its coast and the regard others have for its expertise. Regionally the Council is working with the Government Office and East of England Development Agency on studies linked to the East of England Coastal Initiative - a project connected with regenerating changing coastal communities. It is working with neighbouring authorities in Norfolk and Suffolk to develop partnerships to deliver more effective coast protection services and make better use of the resources available in each authority.
The Head of Coastal Strategy, Peter Frew has recently been elected Chairman of the East Anglia Coastal Group (EACG), one of 7 new Regional Coastal Groups. In this region EACG replaces the Anglian Coastal Authorities Group (ACAG), which was one of 18 smaller groups.
Nationally the Council is heavily involved in the Local Government Association Coastal Special Interest Group where the Council's coast portfolio holder Cllr Clive Stockton is Vice-Chairman. The Head of Coastal Strategy, is also the Local Government Association's representative on the Project Board that is overseeing the development of the Defra Adaptation Toolkit, one of 19 projects within the Making Space for Water Project. The Council is also involved in working with organisations such as the Environment Agency, British Geological Survey, the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and other universities.
