Policies & Strategies

There are a number of policies and strategies that impact on the Council's procurement practices and these can be found below. The Council's Corporate Plan, Changing Gear (PDF 1Mb), recognises the role that procurement will play in the Council's future, and it is included as 1 of the 9 key themes within the Organisational Development Plan contained within the document.

1. Procurement Strategy 2005 - 2008 (PDF 168Kb)
2. Diversity and Equality Policy 2006(DOC 34Kb)
3. Race Equality Scheme (PDF 200Kb)
4. Health and Safety Policy (PDF 66Kb)
5. Safe Management of Contractors Policy (PDF 268Kb)
6. Whistle Blowing Policy (PDF 68Kb)
7. Financial Strategy (PDF 1Mb)
8. Constitution (DOC 1.1Mb)
9. Freedom of Information Act

One of the key objectives of our Procurement Strategy is to ensure that procurement processes are sustainable, which means that they maximise the benefits for the environment, community and economy, both locally and globally.

The Council will therefore:

  • Comply with all relevant environmental legislation.
  • Encourage contractors and suppliers to investigate and develop environmentally friendly procedures and products.
  • Ensure that suppliers environmental policies are considered during tender evaluations and that, where appropriate, environmental criteria are used in the award of contracts.
  • Wherever possible and practicable, specify the use of environmentally friendly materials and products.
  • Ensure that specifications, as appropriate, provide the facility for suppliers to provide environmentally friendly alternatives.
