Employment Creation & Job Security

In the current climate of recession and concerns about redundancy, it is vital that support be provided which can help to minimise the time an individual might spend unemployed through be made redundant. By participating in the county wide Norfolk Redundancy Group and through Learning 4 Everyone’s direct involvement with R2R (Response to Redundancy, a regional initiative to help the victims of redundancy) we are providing local service and support. Typically this will involve letting people know what benefits and support is available to them, signposting people to retrain or to gain the qualifications which reflect their competency and aid with job search skills, writing a strong CV, interview techniques and the such.

Many people being made redundant have been employed all their working lives and have never thought about skills or qualifications. They are very competent at the job but have no documentation to prove. In addition they might never have had to use a computer. Being made unemployed can be a shock, especially when it seems that you have to start from rock bottom. But with support, individuals can soon bounce back – identifying and understanding transferable skills can be a big boost to confidence, as can working towards and gaining National Test (literacy and numeracy) and IT qualifications.

The R2R work is part of the practical work offered by L4E to support employment creation and job security. Other initiatives are linked including IAG Gateway, Springboard to Work and Virtual Business Support.

CASE STUDY - Employment Creation

"In September 2009 I was made Redundant. This was the second time I had been made redundant in two years. Due to the economic climate this time round, it meant that there were fewer jobs available and more applicants. My confidence was low and I new that I needed help with my C.V. I received one to one guidance from the Learning 4 everyone team. My C.V. underwent a complete re-vamp and I came away feeling confident that I had many skills and plenty of experience to offer a new employer. There was a specific job that I was applying for and so I went directly from my Learning for everyone meeting to hand in my new and improved C.V. to this employer. The next day I was contacted for an interview and the same afternoon offered the job. I am now in permanent employment with a local employer and thoroughly enjoying my new role. The help I received boosted my confidence and self-esteem and gave me the courage to go forward and get the job that I wanted."
