Clinical Waste Collections

North Norfolk District Council provides a service for the collection of human hygiene and clinical waste which requires the use of specially marked yellow sacks and/or sharps boxes. This service would be suitable for nursing homes, residential homes, beauty salons and tattooists.

Commercial and prescribed clinical waste must not be mixed with other rubbish and must be disposed of in accordance with the regulations listed in the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and The Controlled Waste Regulations 1992.

Types of Clinical Waste:

Group A: All human tissue including blood soiled dressings, swabs and other soiled waste from treatment areas.
Group B: Used hypodermic needles*.
Group E: Incontinence pads, colostomy bags, used disposable bedpans and bedpan liners.
Please note we cannot collect Group D (drugs and pharmaceuticals).

*We cannot collect any needles or dressings that have been used to administer Cytotoxic/Cytostatic medicines or anything you are told to label as Cytotoxic/Cytostatic waste. For advice on how to dispose of these items, please contact the dispensing pharmacy/surgery/hospital.

This service is free for domestic use but the following charges apply for businesses:

PLEASE NOTE:  Commercial Clinical Waste collection charges are subject to VAT @ 20%

Markings:

All Group A and E waste should be securely contained in the sacks provided. The sacks are clearly identified with markings on both sides as follows:

Group E: Black stripes
