Our commitment to tackle benefit fraud

The benefits department at North Norfolk District Council has a duty under law to provide financial help to all those who qualify towards payment of their rent and Council Tax demands. We aim to maximise awards of benefit to those who are entitled but also ensure that payments are not made to those who are claiming benefits dishonestly.

We recognise that most claimants are honest people who are genuinely entitled to the benefits they claim. However, we also realise that there are those who will attempt to claim benefits to which they know they are not entitled. Our dedicated Benefit Fraud investigation team is committed to the detection and prevention of such cases.

All fraudsters are required to repay overpaid benefit, in addition they may be prosecuted. Further details can be found on our Benefit Fraud Prosecution Policy.
