How much DHP will I get?

Awards of Discretionary Housing Payments are individually assessed against your personal and financial circumstances, therefore the amount of Discretionary Housing Payment awarded can vary. Some of the factors we will consider in our assessment include:

  • Your total income, expenditure and savings
  • Whether anyone else in the household is able to help financially
  • Any outstanding loans or debts
  • Whether your finances could be rearranged to improve your situation
  • Special circumstances such as ill health or disability
  • Whether any other housing options are available to you
  • Whether your current situation makes it difficult for you to move
  • Whether you have previously had a Discretionary Housing Payment award

If we decide that we can award you a Discretionary Housing Payment it will be paid for a set period depending on the reasons for the award. The amount we award may also be reduced or stopped if your circumstances should change. If an overpayment occurs we will recover this from you.

Any award of Discretionary Housing Payment will paid along with your regular Housing or Council Tax Benefit.
