What if I move but remain liable for rent at my old address?
If you move from one rented property to another rented property you can be eligible for Housing Benefit for both of them, but only if your liability for rent on both properties could not reasonably have been avoided. It can only be awarded for the period after you have moved into your new address and can only be awarded for a maximum of four weeks from the date you move.
Similarly if you move from a rented property to a non-rented property you are entitled to Housing Benefit for the property you have left but only if the rental charge on the old property could not reasonably have been avoided. It can only be awarded for the period after you have moved into your new address and can only be awarded for a maximum of four week from the date you move.
