The Seaside Arts Society (SAS) was set up by Sheringham Little Theatre to research the history and traditions of the eastern region's summer seaside theatres, from Hunstanton to Frinton-on-sea. A £25,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund has enabled a group of North Norfolk-based young people to team up with the theatre and Norfolk Museums Service to organise the project, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of summer rep at Sheringham. Over the course of 2010, the SAS team visited seaside theatres in the region, carried out research, spoke to theatre audiences, interviewed celebrities who have performed at seaside venues and gave presentations on the project in schools.
